U.S. Steel Settles $250 Million Asbestos Lawsuit

U.S. Steel has settled the asbestos lawsuit by a former employee with lung cancer for a fraction of the $250 million jury verdict. The company believes the verdict would have been overturned, but did not want the lengthy process to distract business operations.


U.S. Exempts 295 products from Steel Tariffs

The Bush administration will exempt an additional 295 foreign steel products from the tariffs designed to protect the U.S. steel industry. The new exemptions cover plate, hot-rolled, cold-rolled, stainless steel, pipe and tubes.


Bethlehem and ISG Sign $1.5 Billion Deal

International Steel Group is a step closer to closing the deal on the proposed $1.5 Billion purchase of bankrupt Bethlehem Steel. The court is expected to rule on the merger as early as April.
